The Complete FAX Portable and Portable Plus give you the ability to combine text and graphics in ASCII, Epson Print files, and cover sheets. Put your letterhead on documents, add signatures to letters, PFAX makes your letters and documents look more professional and allows you to personalize them as well. The graphic file to be inserted in a document must already be in the PFAX format. The procedure for doing this will vary depending on how you get the image into your computer. The easiest way is to scan your logo, signature, whatever using a hand held or full page scanner. This gives you the ability to re- scan if necessary and usually gives you access to some editing tools which you can use to scale (reduce or enlarge), crop, and "clean-up" the image before saving it. If you don't have access to a scanner, you can create them in a "paint" type program, or have someone fax them to your FAX Portable or Portable Plus. If you are using a Complete PC scanner with SmartScan software: Scan the image at 200 dpi. Crop the image (if necessary) to remove extraneous white space. Edit the image as desired. Save the image in a PFAX compatible format (.PCX preferred). If you are using any scanner with software other than SmartScan: Scan the image at 200 dpi. Crop the image (if necessary) to remove extraneous white space. Edit the image as desired. Save the image in a PFAX compatible format (.PCX preferred) Go into The Complete FAX Press F7, Special Features Press F2, Convert to FAX Convert the document to fax format in Fine mode. If you are using a paint program: If possible, configure your paint program to 200 dpi. NOTE: the default resolution on most paint programs is approximately 150 dpi. If this is true of your program and you cannot change the resolution to 200 dpi, you can still create images, but make them a little larger than you normally would as they will be scaled down in the conversion. Create your graphic. Save the image in a PFAXcompatible format (.PCX preferred) Go into The Complete FAX. Press F7, Special Features. Press F2, Convert to FAX. Convert the document to fax format in Fine mode. To have someone fax your graphic to you: Have them turn off their fax header (the company name, etc. on the top line of the fax). Have them fax it in Fine mode from their machine, making sure the paper feeds as straight as possible. Upon receipt, go into The Complete FAX. Press F2, Receive Faxes. Highlight the line identifying the graphic. Press F5, Move. Enter the new rename (Example, ABCSIG) (PFAX will give it the .001 extension for you). Important: If you receive your graphic as part of a multi-page fax, it may be just as easy to check the PFAX assigned filename (Example, FAX001.003 for page 3), then exit to DOS and use the DOS commands to copy or rename the specific page. (Ex. COPY FAX001.003 ABCSIG.001) Important. The graphic must be in the PFAX directory or you must specify a path to the file as part of the filename. When creating a logo to go on your PFAX cover sheet, it should be no more than 1 1/2" high if you will also be using the "Fax Message" graphic, 2 1/2" high if you will not be using the "Fax Message" graphic. Once you have your graphic(s) in PFAX format, you are ready to include them in other documents. This is done through the use of a command: %%INCLUDE. The full format for the command is: %%INCLUDE(FILENAME.EXT)[/OPTIONS]; Options are: R Image replaces anything it lays over (Solid Overlay) M Lets anything underneath the graphic show through (Transparent Overlay) Xn Specifies how far from the left margin you want the graphic to appear. n is measured in inches. If you do not select either R or M, FAX Portable defaults to M (Transparent Overlay) If you do not specify an X value, the upper left corner of the graphic will be placed at the first % of the %%INCLUDE command. Multiple options can be included on the same line, in any order. Options are always preceded by a / (forward slash) and the line ended with a ; (semicolon) Ex. %%INCLUDE(ABCSIG.001)/MX1.5; If you want FAX Portable to automatically crop the graphic at a certain point in the document enter the command %%INCLUDE; there. This command is used, for example, on the cover sheet to prevent the page from coming out too long and may be an option for people who have their graphics faxed to them but who don't have access to a program which would allow them to crop out extra white space.
