The following information describes configuration in Lap Link Pro necessary for the software to function with the Complete Communicator Gold modem. Please note the following information is presented with the assumption that you are using a mouse. If you are not using a mouse, please refer to the Lap Link Pro manual for equivalent keyboard commands. Setting up Lap Link Pro To configure Lap Link Pro for use with the Complete Communicator Gold . First you must execute the Lap Link program. Then choose Options and select Port/Modem Setup. Choose the modem serial port used by the Complete Communicator Gold modem. You will be presented with a modem list. The Complete Communicator Gold modem will not be listed in the selection menu so must choose Hayes Ultra 9600. The settings Tone Dial and Auto Answer will have to be checked if they aren't already. Then goto Setup Port... and make sure Enable Port, Use Modem, and Forced Standard (3-Wire) Mode are all checked. Set the Baud Rate setting to the modem's maximum speed of 9,600. Click OK and then Done to save the changes . The Communicator Gold is now configured for Lap Link Pro. Calling a Communicator Gold with CCBACK loaded This paragraph is provided for people who are planning to use Lap Link Pro while the Complete Communicator Gold's Voice Mail system operates. For the Complete Communicator Gold to answer the phone the program CCBACK must be loaded before using Lap Link. Since Lap Link Pro does not operate in resident memory, it must be on screen at all times for it to function. If Lap Link Pro is not operating in the foreground, the caller will hear a click when he/she transfers to the modem mailbox but will not have functional access to the modem. The call at that point will have been passed to nothing, and the Communicator Gold software would have already release the call. Be sure that Lap Link Pro is indeed actively running on the screen. Special considerations must be exercised when operating with the CCBACK TSR for the Complete Communicator Gold and Lap Link Pro. There are three methods that the Windows version of Communicator Gold uses to answer the phone. These methods are: 1. Voice 2. Fax 3. Modem Voice When Communicator Gold is setup in voice mode the caller has to navigate to the modem mailbox (Default mailbox number is 333). In order to maneuver through to the modem with Lap Link Pro you must setup a special dialing string in the Lap Link phone book. The example below illustrates a typical dial string. The commas are used to generate pauses between the issuing of touch tones. The actual time value of each comma may differ from machine to machine. Make adjustments as necessary. The best way to determine the appropriate number and distribution of commas for a successful dial string is to listen in on the phone call when Lap Link Pro is dialing out to approximate the location and duration of pauses needed.. A typical dial string with voice answering would consist of the number, followed by commas to pause long enough for the greeting to play, (Approx. nine (9) commas if Communicator Gold answers on 2 rings), then the modem access number. Example: 1-408-555-1212,,,,,,,,,333 ( 333 being the Modem mailbox number) Fax When the Communicator Gold is set to answer as a fax then a further adjustment will needs to be made to compensate for the fax capability. The above dialing string in Lap Link Pro has to be modified so that when the Communicator Gold answers the phone Lap Link Pro automatically routes the call into voice mail. The dialing string with fax answering would consist of the number, followed by commas to pause long enough for the greeting to play, (Approx. nine (9) commas if Communicator Gold answers on 2 rings), then a number to enter voice mail (This can be any number between 0 and 9) and then two commas followed by the modem access number. Example: 1-408-555-1212,,,,,,,,,?,,,333 ( ? being any number between 0 and 9 and 333 being the Modem mailbox number) Modem If the Complete Communicator Gold is setup to answer as a modem then no special action is required, however, since the Communicator Gold software will still issue a greeting for the modem mailbox, a few pauses following the phone number may help. A standard setup would consist of just the phone number of the Communicator Gold with Lap Link Pro followed by 3 commas. Example: 1-408-555-1212,,, (3 Commas) Note that the CCBACK TSR is not necessary for Lap Link Pro to work. If you choose to omit executing the TSR and run the Complete Communicator Gold modem alone for a particular session, simply setup the software as if the Communicator Gold is just a modem without the TSR loaded into memory. The caller would not need to deal with maneuvering through the Voice Mail to access the modem. Other Considerations If problems develop please check the following for possible problems. Make sure the Com port setting in Lap Link Pro matches the setting on the Communicator Gold. If you receive a failure in connecting be sure to check the modem with a communications package to ensure the modem functions properly. Be sure to check to see if the modem initialization string matches the above configuration. If problems still occur contact Traveling Software to ensure your Lap Link Pro settings are correct.
