CPC091792 236.DOC The Complete Communicator for DOS Using Single Cover Sheets This document is provided as "For your information" and as is. Neither The Complete PC nor any of it's employees assume any responsibility for consequences resulting from the use of the following information nor can the Complete PC technical support provide help with this document. The user of said information does so at his or her own risk. The Complete Communicator version 2.6x or higher software gives the ability to send short notes by using the cover sheet functions, and to retain those cover sheets by giving them a filename that is meaningful to you. To create a single cover sheet, press F3 from the Send Faxes screen. The CCOM software prompts you to enter a filename. For a new cover sheet, choose a unique filename (usually the recipient's name or company name so you can remember it easily) no longer than 8 characters, e.g. COMPLETE. To modify or re-use an existing cover, enter it's name. Once you choose a filename and press enter, the cover sheet editing screen comes up, ready for you to manipulate. Type in your information, then press F10 to save it and return to the Send Faxes screen. At the Send Faxes screen, press Tab to move the cursor to the Phone Number field where you can enter the phone number of the recipient, a group name or select a phone number from the Phone Book by pressing F7 twice. Once you have entered the recipient's number, press F10 to exit and send the fax. The Cover sheet is converted to fax file format as a temporary file. The converted version of the cover sheet is automatically deleted when the file is either sent successfully or when the Maximum Number of Retries has been exhausted. Two other copies of the named cover sheet are saved in the C:\CC directory. The extensions of these files are .CVR and .COV. Because they do not have the extension .001 for a converted cover sheet, they do not show up in the FAX Directory within the CCOM menus. One way to find out which files you still have stored is to exit to DOS and do a directory of *.CVR or *.COV. Another way to access the list is from Send Fax, F7 List option. Once the software prompts you for the directory name, you can have it search the specific directory and all files within that directory with the extension .CVR, i.e. C:\OLDFAX\*.CVR. Select the coversheet you want to send and then press F10 to return to the file list screen and F10 again to return to Send Faxes. You can delete these files from the DOS Directory screen or at your DOS prompt, using the DOS DEL command. If you want to edit the cover sheet before sending, press F3 for Single cover sheet from the Send Faxes screen. When the software prompts you, enter the filename and press enter. The text you previously typed in will appear on the screen, ready to be changed. To resend a cover sheet, simply enter the filename (e.g. COMPLETE.CVR) under "Filename" on the Send Faxes screen, then enter the fax Phone Number of the recipient. If you wish to keep a converted copy of that named cover sheet, manually convert it to fax file format. To do this, go to the Special Features menu (F7) then Convert to Fax (F2). Enter the filename of the cover sheet you wish to convert (e.g. COMPLETE.CVR), Type C for cover sheet "Type" and either Standard or Fine resolution. Press F3 to convert. The converted file (e.g. COMPLETE.000) is created and stored in the C:\CC directory. Since it has the extension .000, it will not show in the Fax Directory screen. Warning: The cover sheet file, CVR uses quotation marks (") as the end of line marker. If you use quotation marks in the cover sheet, all text following the first quotation mark will be deleted when converted to fax. Single quotes are okay.
