After executing TELIX to access Telix, you will find yourself with Telix's opening screen followed by an attempt by Telix to initialize the modem. Once past that screen, you will be place in terminal modem by Telix. This is indicated by the relatively blank screen and a status bar at the bottom. The status bar will indicate to you the current communications parameters. Press Alt-O to access Telix's configuration screen. Move the highlight selector to Terminal Options and press the ENTER key. In Terminal Options check the baud rate A to be sure that you have the correct speed selected. If you are using a Non-MNP modem the value should be at 2400. If you are using an MNP modem, the value should be at 9600. If the value needs to be changed, press A. Your will be given a list of rates from which to choose. Move the highlight selector to the appropriate speed and press the ENTER key. You will then be asked to select Data Bits. Move the highlight bar to the appropriate number and press the ENTER key. In most cases, 8 will be appropriate. The next item is the Stop Bits. The default of 1 should be appropriate. If it is not, move the highlight bar to the other option. Press the ENTER key to accept. You will then be returned to the Terminal Options screen. Option B will show you COM ports. If the COM port listed is not the one you have configured on your Communicator, press B to bring up a list of COM port from which to choose. Move the highlight bar to the appropriate COM port and press the ENTER key to make the selection. Next check option J for Xon/Xoff flow control. If it is ON, press J to enable the option to change. Select OFF by moving the highlight bar over and press the ENTER key to log the change. Check K to CTS/RTS flow control. If it is OFF, press K to enable the option to change. Select ON by moving the highlight bar over and press the ENTER key to log the change. Press the ENTER key again to return to the Configure Telix menu. Now press M for Modem and Dialing. The first option will be the Init String. Press the ENTER key to enable change to this field. The string should be entered as follows: Non MNP Initialization string: AT&F&C1&D2^M Alternate: ATE1V1Q0X4&C1&D2^M MNP Initialization string: AT&F&C1&D2^M Alternate: AT&C1&D2E1V1Q0X4\A3\N3\Q3\V1%C1\J0 ^M After the string is entered and all other extraneous characters are removed from the field, press the ENTER key to log your changes. It will place your modem in the mode set by the factory and will generally give you the best performance. If you find that your modem does not quite respond properly to such, you may choose to use the alternate. This forces the modem to operate as a Hayes compatible, a mode theat Telix should find completely acceptable. In the case of the MNP alternate, MNP modem users will be forcing the MNP reliable mode on, thus achieving data compression and error checking. The default Hangup and Auto Answer strings are correct for use with the Communicator modem, so no changes are needed there. Press the ENTER key to return to the Configure Telix menu. Press W to write changes to disk which will place your back in terminal mode once the changes to the configuration have been recorded to disk. Please refer to the Telix documentation for further instructions concerning operation of the Telix software.
