Neither The Complete PC nor any of it's employees assume any responsibility for consequences resulting from the use of the following information nor can the Complete PC technical support provide help with this document. The user of said information does so at his or her own risk. To use The Complete Communicator with Multimate 4.0, you need to add some new printer definitions to Multimate. To do this, do the following: At the DOS prompt type SETUPMM Select "Setup Printer Definitions". Select "Edit Printer Setups". Press the INS (Insert key) to add a printer definition. Select Epson from the list of printer types. Select FX-80 from the list of printer models. Note: If you don't have the Epson printer files on your hard disk, you will be prompted to insert Printer Disk 1. Select none for sheetfeeder, and LPT1 for port. Assign a name to this definition (ex. FAXFILE) Exit SETUPMM This will allow you to use our HotKey function which captures the printer codes directed at the LPT1 port. If you wish to also have the ability to print directly to disk (such as when you want to generate a permanent fax that you can send, like this instruction sheet) follow the above steps, with the following changes: Select none for sheetfeeder, and Disk File for port. Assign a name to this definition (ex: FAX DISK PRINT) This completes the preliminary setup. You are now ready to use these functions. Using HotKey Retrieve the document you wish to convert to a fax. Type ALT F to access the pull-down menus. Go to the PRINT menu and select "Change Printer Setup". Select the Printer Definition for printing to LPT1 (ex. FAXFILE). Select EPSONFX from the PAT menu. Press ALT F and fill in the needed information. Type ALT F again to access the pull-down menu and select "Print Document" from the Print menu. Be sure to put at least a one line top margin to avoid having the top row of text overwritten by the fax header. Press F10 to print the document. Exit from MultiMate to DOS to allow us to run our conversion and sending program. Your fax will be converted, and sent at the time specified. Once you get to the prompt, HKEYSEND should show up at the prompt automatically. If you ever get an error message "Error in this file!", it means it did not have a file to capture at LPT1. Make sure you are doing the print command. NOTE: HotKey is known to not come up automatically with DOS 4.0 or higher. If you have our CCOM installed in a machine with 4.0 or higher, you will have to execute the HKEYSEND manually. To do this, at the DOS prompt type HKEYSEND and press return. Printing to Disk Retrieve the document you wish to convert to a fax. Type ALT F to access the pull-down menus. Go to the PRINT menu and select "Change Printer Setup". Select the Printer Definition for printing to disk. (ex. FAX DISK PRINT) Select Epson FX from the PAT menu. Press ALT F and fill in the needed information. Type ALT F again to access the pull-down menus and select "Print Document" from the Print menu. Be sure to put at least a one blank line at the top to avoid having the top row of text overwritten by the fax header. Press F10 to print the document. Exit from MultiMate to DOS to allow us to run our convert and send program. Your fax will be converted, and sent at the time specified.
