CPC092292 224.DOC The Complete Communicator Faxing from Generic Applications This document is provided as "For your information" and as is. Neither The Complete PC nor any of it's employees assume any responsibility for consequences resulting from the use of the following information nor can the Complete PC technical support provide help with this document. The user of said information does so at his or her own risk. There are two requirements that your application software needs to hav in order to work with the HotKey in Complete Communicator. First of all you must be able to configure your application software to use an Epson FX, or IBM Proprinter. The second requirement is that the print output can be captured by another program . This is important because some applications are so strict that the print command will only direct the parallel output to a printer (actual hardware device). If your software does not meet these two requirements it is not compatible with the HotKey feature in Complete Communicator. If your software meets these requirements you can use the HotKey by following a few simple steps. Create or retrieve the document you want to fax Press Alt F and a fax cover sheet will pop up on the screen. Fill in the Cover sheet with the name, phone number and any other information you need including a short memo. Press F10 to start the print capture. At this point the fax coversheet pop-up screen will be replaced by a screen instructing you to do two things, 1 change your printer driver and 2 print you document. Press the space bar on your keyboard and this screen will disappear. Change your printer type, if necessary, to an Epson FX, or IBM Proprinter(if your printer is one of these, skip this step) Consult your application manual if you are not sure how to change your printer type. Now issue the print command in your application, print your document just as you would if you were going to print the document to your printer. The document will not go to the printer. It will be captured by the HotKey program. (you will be able to see the brief disk activity while the file is captured) After the file has been printed you need to exit from your application so the file can be converted and sent as a fax. If, when you exit from your application you are in any type of a menu or shell program you must also exit that program so you will be at DOS. The next thing you will see is HKEYSEND, file convert and send. This is the convert and send program that must execute for the file to be sent. There are some combinations of DOS and CCOM where this will not execute automatically. If you do not see the HKEYSEND appear on your screen you will need to type it at the DOS prompt. You are now ready to go on with other tasks, the fax will be sent in the background at the date and time you specified on the pop- up coversheet. If you need to send more faxes go back into you application and follow all of the steps, skipping step 4. If you will not be sending anymore faxes be sure to change your printer back to the printer type you normally use, so your printer will print files correctly.
