The user of said information does so at his or her own risk. CCOM can be used to notify you, via your beeper, of messages received. To do this: Access CAM by typing CAM at the DOS prompt or by selecting The Complete Answering Machine from the CCOM Main Menu. Enter the number and password (if requested) of the mailbox you want to have call your beeper. From the CAM Main Menu, select Personal Options. From the Personal Options menu, select Forwarding and Outgoing Message Options. Fill out the following information: Set "Forward Messages (Y/N)?" to Y. For the Phone number, enter The phone number to access your beeper; followed by 4 to 6 semicolons (;) which indicate a pause; then the number you would like to display on your beeper so you know it's CAM calling. End with an exclamation point (!) which tells CAM to hang up. Example: 555-1234;;;;;;2264! The key to making this feature work is in the timing of your telephone system, beeper, and CAM's dialing. Typically, 4 to 6 semicolons supply the correct pause length, but you may need to add or subtract semicolons to get the timing just right for your beeper. *see note. Set the Number of tries to 1. This tells CAM not to re-try since it will not consider a message delivered to a beeper as successful. The Time Interval Between Retries can be left at the default of 10 since it will not be used. Press F10 to save your entries and exit the Options screen. Then press the Esc key twice to exit CAM. When a message is left in this mailbox, CAM will dial the beeper number (555-1234), then pause for the time specified by the semicolons. This gives the beeper company time to answer the phone and issue its tones. CAM then dials the last digits (2264) to be displayed on the beeper and hangs up. If this is not working it is probably an issue with timing. You can only diagnose this by listening in to the call that CAM is placing to your beeper company. Have someone call and leave a message in the Mailbox that is set to forward. After they leave a message, listen to your system for the relay click. It will click twice, once to hang up from the caller leaving the message, and then again when CAM is picking up the phone to dial the beeper company. After the second click pick up the local phone (the one connected to the board) and listen to the call being placed. You should hear the seven touchtones (as shown in the example above 555-1234) indicating that the number is being dialed. The next thing you should hear is your local Bell Company connecting to your beeper company. The beeper company phone will ring, then pick-up, CAM should have been silent during this process (as indicated by the ;;;;;'s in the example). If CAM was not silent you need more wait time. After the beeper company answers you should hear the last of the touchtones indicated in your dialing string (as in the example above 2264). If your beeper company hangs up before you hear the last set of touchtones, you have too long of a wait set. *Note: CAM uses two symbols for wait parameters the ',' (comma) is a short pause and the ';'(semi colon) is a long pause. These values are set by default to ,=3 tenths of a second and ;=4 seconds. These values can be configured differently if necessary. Do this in the INSTALLC program, F3 to Modifying Existing Parameters then F5 for Telephone System Information. Make the necessary changes to the long and/or short pause. Press F10 twice to save and exit. You will need to reboot for the new values to be effective.
